Bio: MisterSelf, also known as simply ‘Self’ is a celebrated poet and spoken word artist. His art is not delivered in typical spoken-word cadence but rather a “touch and go” style offering succinct expressions that tease the ear and leave you wanting more. A native of the South-East side of Chicago, he was inspired at the age of 12 by legendary front-man Shock G of Digital Underground and later dubbed ‘Self Digital’. MisterSelf honed his pen to mine for the purest of expressions and prefers to have his works heard rather than read enabling the listener to absorb the feelings of his work audibly: MisterSelf is an example of a true spoken-word artist.

While in college, Self met Spoken, a Poet from Chicago’s Inglewood neighborhood. Spoken was a well-known Host and Producer of a popular spoken word set called ‘THE CYPHER SESSIONS’ hosted at Borders Bookstores, college campuses and entertainment venues nationwide. Self and Spoken combined to create the Poetic Duo ‘Elemental’ and shared the stage with legendary poets: SAM GREENLY, KENT FORMAN, STILL BLACK SEA, THE LAST POETS, THE POETREE, J IVY, MALIK YUSEF, DISCO POETRY KHARI B, DEANA DEAN, M’RELD GREEN, JUS WORDS, K-LOVE, BEN AMI, AND TAALAM ACEY Just to name a few.

MisterSelf is best-known for sensual poetry that arouses the fluids. He is frequently requested to feature at Spoken word sets across the U.S and Canada. He is a resident feature at the annual ‘NIGHT OF PASSION’ erotic showcase produced by THE MEOW UNIVERSITY.
